Helping People Take Their Next Step With God...

I love our Mission statement... Really I mean it! "Helping People Take Their Next Step With God"

There is so much that I love about our Mission statement. First off it invokes this idea of never arriving at the finish line, that we all have room to grow, we all have steps to take in our Spiritual Journey. Secondly I love the visual; Imagine yourself on a walk, but not just any walk. A walk with God... That is a pretty powerful visual!

I don't know what it is, but there is something special about walks. I mean when my wife and I take walks we seem to talk about things that we don't normally talk about. It is like life slows down and the normal "business of life" isn't present while we are walking, we reconnect with each other. Now imagine yourself on walk with Jesus like that!

So the question is what is your next step? Where is that God is calling you to go? Maybe it is just being open to what God might be saying, maybe it is simply continuing to come to Student Ministry every week, maybe it is praying for your friends who aren't coming to Church or don't know God, maybe it is finding quite time with God and just listening... I'm not sure what it is, but I do know you have a next step.

I'd love to hear what your next step is...

last week we wrote letters to a friend who didn't go to church or believe in God. This week has taught me something, nervously, I put off the task of actually asking my person until some day later in the week...you know, "sometime" but God taught me a lesson. We don't know if tomorrow will come. We had a snow day every single day this week except Monday...can you get that!? God's little "hey you" whisper became loud and clear. "sometime" must be turned into today. Tomorrow is no guarantee.

and on another note, I am fully disturbed. (yes, this belongs in the other blog, in response to Don, but go with it :D) We are students. But we have the opportunity to make what could possibly be the BIGGEST impact ever--hey guys, WE ARE THE FUTURE, that's no secret. Look around, what's wrong with this picture of our world!? This is soooo not the world I believe God created. We people came and messed it all up. But what do you see? I see teenagers, CHILDREN, starving themselves, hurting themselves, being hurt by others, drinking, smoking, doing drugs, and battling some of their biggest demons. and what are WE doing? we're clinging to our friends, and our so-called "friends." we're clinging to drama and other things which we create ourselves. throw it away, kids. THROW IT AWAY. there are real hurting people. They don't necessarily understand this "God thing" but we all speak one language that's quite similar-we all speak the language of love. God is Love, and love is not religion. Love is not scary, love is not some absurd idea. So as you continue to live your lives, as hard as that may be naturally, live with Love written across your actions and words. Love will cause conversations that you would NEVER have expected. Love heals. and I am just naive enough to believe that LOVE, shown through an everyday "child" will change the world. Don't be afraid of Love, and don't be afraid of healing. This world needs healing. And it's going to take a who lot more of us being disturbed and taking the steps to Love before any change can occur. And this act of being disturbed...it can hurt. God can and sometimes does choose to break our hearts so we may better understand what breaks His. Once this has occurred, healing steps in. Love. God, Love. they're one in the same. Take your steps, as little at a time as needed.
